Administrator Research Operations - #8912

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, currently seeks an individual to serve as the principal administrator for all research activities within assigned Departments, Divisions, Programs and Centers (hereafter referred as Department). In partnership with Department leadership and researchers, manages the research operations of clinical, basic and/or population science Departments. Serves as the liaison to clinical practice and education.  Conveys institutional perspective in Departmental deliberations and fosters integration.   Provides comprehensive operational leadership in planning, organizing, managing and evaluating Departmental research activities.  Facilitates employment and performance management; coaches and mentors research personnel.  Works with Department leadership to coordinate staff recruitment.

Serves on research and institutional committees, provides administrative leadership and perspective. Leads and/or participates in research enterprise planning, budgeting, financial reporting, resource monitoring, and policy development and implementation.  Interprets/clarifies regulatory standards and reporting requirements.  Facilitates strategic planning initiatives related to new and/or existing research activities, new/reassigned space, construction/renovation projects, relocations, etc.  Provides project management of initiatives as may be assigned. Works with Development Department to develop, implement, and manage research-oriented fund raising strategies. Provides pre- and post-award administrative expertise for governmental, commercial and private sector grants and contracts.

Comparable positions at universities and other academic medical centers may be identified as Associate Vice President or Vice President Research Administration or Associate Director or Director of Research Administration.

The candidate must possess a master's degree in business, health care administration or related field and five to seven years of relevant experience or equivalent; preferably experience in an academic medical center or university setting.  Must have demonstrated competencies in leadership, management and operations. Preferred areas of expertise include strategic planning, finance, information systems, human resources, grant administration, and regulatory compliance. Requires excellent communication skills, creativity, commitment, strategic insight, and experience working with physicians and scientists and managing allied health staff. Must be self-motivated to function independently in an ambiguous environment often driven by deadlines. Must be competent to interact with and effectively use basic software applications and receptive to learning new applications required to support departmental or institutional activities.
