At Murray State University, we give all new investigators, whether or not
they have limited sponsored research support, a fixed, competitive
salary. We do not expect them to become "grant-funded" within
any time period. However, the researchers are highly encouraged to
develop research grant proposals and the institution allows faculty
researchers to make summer pay and overload during the academic year if
the sponsor will allow pending of course University approval.

How does your organization fund salary for new investigators that have
very limited sponsored research support? Do you give them a
certain salary and expect them to become funded in a certain time period
or provide a low salary and increase as grant support increases (direct
correlation) or another method?
Thanks
