This position works with
university administration and the Director of Research Integrity within the
Office of the Vice Provost for Research to provide administrative oversight of
the university’s Conflict of Interest and Commitment policy and its
implementation. Additionally, the
Compliance Coordinator reviews and monitors several compliance areas and
provides training to campus personnel on topics relating to the responsible
conduct of research. This is a key
position in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research working to ensure that
research at the university is conducted ethically and in accordance with federal
and university regulations.
Duties:
Conflict of Interest
Management (20%)
- Works
with university administration and the Director of Research Integrity to
manage the university’s Conflict of Interest (COI) and Commitment policy and
its implementation. Communicates
with faculty and unclassified staff to help them understand the policy and its
implications. Works with the
university’s COI Committee to handle conflicts and provides guidance to
faculty and staff in the drafting of management plans. Oversees the online COI
reporting system. Provides the
COI Committee with relevant information for its review process and carries out
the work of the committee to handle all communication and correspondence
regarding conflicts of interest.
Manages all confidential records and related reporting, including a
database of the status of faculty and staff disclosures. Communicates information in a
coherent, cordial and articulate manner.
Compliance
Management (60%)
- Works
with the director in the review and monitoring of compliance areas including,
but not limited to:
ITAR/EAR/OFAC, data retention, protection of human subjects, animal
care and use, research misconduct, publication practices, roles of research
faculty and staff, and mentoring students.
- Works
with the Director and support staff to develop and maintain systems to monitor
compliance areas.
- Works
with university committees and offices across campus such as the Environmental
Health and Safety Office, the IT Security Office, the Faculty Senate Research
Committee, etc., to provide support and response on research integrity
issues.
- Serves
as a resource to university researchers and to central and departmental
research administrators regarding research integrity issues.
- Provides
leadership for university compliance areas when the Director is unavailable.
Compliance
and Responsible Conduct of Research Education (10%)
- Works
with the Director in assessing the effectiveness of existing compliance and
responsible conduct of research education programs.
- Works
with the Director in developing best-practices training programs for faculty,
students, research and administrative personnel on research compliance and
responsible conduct of research issues.
- Provides
training in research compliance and responsible conduct of research areas
through class visits, workshops, and other forums.
- Uses
high-level analytical skills and makes independent decisions on topics of
compliance and research integrity issues.

Required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
degree or equivalent experience in compliance areas, contract negotiation,
and/or research administration
- Three
years’ work experience in university research compliance or research
administration.
- Excellent
interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Ability
to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ability
to work in a culturally diverse setting with all levels of personnel.
- Excellent
oral and written communication skills.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Graduate
degree
- Knowledge
of and experience in a Research I university environment
- Demonstrated
ability to analyze and interpret agency regulations
- Experience
with implementation of research policies
