Compliance Coordinator

Starting Salary Range: $28,255 - $40,266*
Brief Description of Duties: Interprets, implements and assures compliance with federal
sponsor regulations regarding the protection of human participants in research
and care and use of animals in research and instruction. Assists in
development of internal research ethics policies and procedures.
Maintains and updates federal assurance documents required for securing
research grants. Provides technical assistance to faculty, staff and
students in applying for review of research and instructional protocols
involving human participants or animals. Conducts initial review of
applications to determine completeness, determines type of review required and
conveys ethical concerns to reviewers. Coordinates protocol continuing
review, adverse event response and annual and final reporting activities.
Coordinates and manages activities of ethical review committees (the
Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Research Participants
[IRB] and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee [IACUC]). Plans
meetings, records minutes and maintains official records. Manages
semi-annual animal facilities inspections and program reviews and communicates
findings to the designated institutional official (provost). Handles
initial complaints and concerns regarding research involving humans and animals
and assists the committees in investigating and documenting cases of
noncompliance. Assists in maintaining current information on research
ethics for committee members and the campus community on the ORGA
website. Assists the IRB in assessing requests from external
investigators to recruit research participants on the CofC campus.
Secures protocol information from the jurisdictional IRB and coordinates review
by the College’s IRB. Assists in investigating, documenting and
apprising the campus community of unauthorized campus recruiting
activities. Provides consultation and special presentations to
departments, undergraduate and graduate classes and other interested groups
regarding human research ethics and IRB policies and procedures.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and one year relevant
experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience
and/or education are encouraged to apply. Ability to translate regulatory
requirements into operational policies and procedures is required. Must
have the ability to analyze situations quickly and accurately and adopt an
effective course of action. Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with a diverse constituency is essential. Excellent
organizational, communication and presentation skills are essential. Must
be computer literate. Experience in a university or public agency
environment and/or in regulatory compliance is preferred.
*Commensurate with education/experience which
exceeds the minimum requirements.
NOTE: Some overnight travel is required once per
year for participation in professional development activities.
