POSITION:
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs. UW-Eau Claire is consistently cited in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" as among the best public regional universities in the Midwest and is recognized nationally for its opportunities in collaborative faculty/student research and creative activity. UW-Eau Claire is designated as the Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration within the UW System. As the chief research and sponsored programs officer of the campus, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs is responsible for maintaining and enhancing a vibrant internal funding program, managing extramural grant development activities, and promoting research and creative activities throughout the University and community. These activities are coordinated through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), which is designed to promote faculty development, stimulate undergraduate research and creative activity within all disciplines, and enhance scholarship, teaching, and learning though experiential activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
We seek an Assistant Vice Chancellor with demonstrated professional experience and accomplishment who will provide dynamic and creative research leadership for the University’s academic mission. Knowledge about research administration and funding sources available to support research, instruction, and public service activities across a broad range of disciplines and demonstrated success in obtaining and managing externally funded grants is required.  Experience with preparation of grant proposals and working in an academic environment is strongly preferred. Experience with federal (NSF, NIH, DoE), state and private funding agencies will be considered a benefit.  Familiarity with federal electronic proposal submission mechanisms and demonstrated ability to develop and administer budget accounts is required.   Knowledge of matters related to research compliance including protection of humans and animals as research subjects is required.  Other qualifications that may be considered include the ability to communicate effectively, concern for campus-wide service and satisfaction, dedication to teamwork and professional development, and a commitment to quality, integrity and responsiveness. Terminal degree is required, and a record of scholarly activity suitable for a tenured faculty appointment is desirable.  Enhancing the diversity of the University and serving as a role model and mentor for women and/or minorities will be considered assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs is the public face of research and creative activity at UW-Eau Claire.  The position is responsible for the development, promotion and management of internally and externally supported grant programs for the research, instructional, and public service interests of the university.  The Assistant Vice Chancellor directs all pre-award grant activities of the university, supervises the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, serves as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, and assists in maintaining a positive work environment that promotes service and quality.  Duties include:
