Join the Illinois Institute of
Technology in a new position as Associate Director for the Office of Sponsored
Research and Programs (OSRP). Our internationally recognized faculty
conducts research on a wide range of subjects. Over the past five years, IIT's
research funding doubled, with a record-breaking $31 million in 2003. As
Associate Director, advise faculty and/or department personnel in
preparation/processing of grant related applications, ensuring compliance with
agency and institution policies. Assist in preparation/revisions of
project budgets and prepare business & contracting portions of proposals,
including subcontracts, human subjects, and animal care. Critically
evaluate research proposals and pre-award provisions to assure compliance and
summarize proposal budget issues. Be responsible for negotiating
grant/contract specifications and managing post-award administration of
sponsored projects, including post-award revisions, periodic & final
reporting, subcontracts and closeout documentation. Formulate research
reports & provide analyses of sponsored project activity to
academic/administrative offices and participate in surveys as required or
requested by Federal agencies & professional societies. Serve as
liaison to the Office of Research Compliance and Proposal Development to provide
articles/information for inclusion in newsletter or other related
communications. Assist in preparing educational materials and
communications related to research administration and sponsored project
activity. Together with the Director, proactively provide updated
information on the OSRP website related electronic research administration
policies and procedures. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and expertise in
federal, state and other agency regulations/policies. Develop and
implement policies related to Electronic Research Administration (ERA), i.e.,
NSF FastLane and other electronic proposal routing & approval
programs.
Bachelor's degree in
Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field and a minimum of
six years of experience in grants/contract administration and negotiating in a
variety of areas (government, industry, foundation, etc) required.
Applicants must possess knowledge/experience of pre-award & non-financial
post-award issues related to research administration in an academic setting with
the ability to interpret and understand federal and non-federal
regulations/operations of sponsored research. Requires excellent
organizational skills, an ability to establish priorities and react promptly to
a variety of requests and needs, sometimes in stressful situations. Strong
oral/written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with
internal (administration, faculty, staff, students) and external (other
universities, industry, federal, state and local) personnel are essential.
Extremely strong computer skills are mandatory, in particular with databases,
including experience in electronic research
administration.
