With the
working title of “Licensing Manager,” this executive position reports to the
Director of the Division of Patents and Licensing, working independently with
University inventors, patent and licensing attorneys engaged by the University,
and current potential corporate licensees.
The incumbent is solely responsible for the protection and management of
technologies from the intake of the disclosure through licensing in conformance
with the goals of the Division and the rules, policies, and procedures of the
Division and the University.
Under
the guidance of the Director and in accordance with University delegations of
authority, policies, and procedures, this position is responsible for assisting
with the evaluation of the University’s Intellectual Property portfolio,
management of patent prosecution, developing and implementing marketing plan for
the licensing of the University’s present portfolio of technologies. Negotiating and drafting legal documents
including license agreements, option agreements, stock agreements, material
transfer agreements, confidential disclosure agreements and/or providing
guidance and oversight in the drafting of such agreements for the approval of
the Director and designees. This
position also requires coordinating licensing activities with the intake of new
invention disclosures and with the patent prosecution of new disclosures and
managing the Universities active licenses and contractual obligations in the
assigned areas and other technologies, as assigned.

Professional
Qualifications:
Preferred
qualifications include previous experience licensing intellectual property in
industry or a federal laboratory; admitted to practice before the United States
Patent and Trademark Office; knowledge of laws and business practices relating
to the protection of intellectual property; and a graduate degree in a technical
area. Applicant needs to have
experience and ability to negotiate and draft patent applications, license and
secrecy agreements, letters of intent and options; to evaluate, protect, market
and license inventions efficiently; to interpret and manage complex agreements,
while having strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, management,
computing and database skills.
Specialized
Minimum Qualifications:
A
master's degree in the physical or life sciences or a bachelor's degree and two
years of experience in law and business practices relating to the protection of
intellectual property.
Key
Responsibilities:
The
successful candidate will be principally responsible for the identification,
evaluation, protection and commercialization of intellectual properties from USF
researchers. Draft, propose, develop, implement and review rules, policies,
practices, programs and procedures involving intellectual property. The Technology Coordinator works
directly with USF scientists, internal and external legal counsel and
representatives of commercial and academic organizations and is expected to
establish and maintain collaborations to enhance and facilitate partner
relationships. Interpretation,
negotiation, review and approval of proposals, contracts and grants relating to
the intellectual property aspects of sponsored research while ensuring the
rights and obligations of all involved parties are defined, understood and
protected.
Compensation:
Salary
is commensurate with qualifications and experience. (Range $26,260 -
negotiable)
