At Georgia Tech, we have a formalized process for screening
multiple proposals to a single sponsor.
It begins with an annual report from our office (Sponsored Programs). We search the Community of Science
database for restricted programs and create a report listing those that are
most likely to elicit interest from our faculty. That report is circulated among chairs,
deans, and department heads, who are thus alerted to potential conflicts. Having the list of restricted programs in
advance has facilitated coordination and cooperation among campus units. When necessary, the VP for Research
appoints an appropriate committee to make recommendations and/or selections from
among “competing proposals.”
