Terri,

We (University of Missouri) have a shared credit entry on our internal proposal processing form.  The investigators and their respective administrators (department chairs, center directors, deans, etc.) decide up front how credit for the award will be divided and when they sign the processing form, that are signifying their agreement with the allocation.  The allocation is done on a percentage basis to total 100% and need not have anything to do with where the funds are expended.  We have an online reporting tool at: http://www.research.missouri.edu/web_research/publications/index.html
that administrators can use to report the numbers by PI department or by the shared credit function.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Tracking interdisciplinary proposals/awards

Our policy is to track proposals and awards by the department and college

of the primary investigator. With the increasing number of

interdisciplinary efforts, there is increasing concern if one

department/college is credited for the sum total of a proposal/award when

a significant portion of the research is performed in another department or

college. This issue is arising more frequently with research centers or institutes involving

collaborative-interdisciplinary efforts. We have considered splitting the amounts to reflect the

anticipated expenditures but will then, in effect, have logged in two (or

more) awards - one for each department. We'd appreciate hearing from

anyone else dealing with this who has a workable solution.

Thank you,

Terri
