Manager, Research Compliance

Job Description

Under the direction of the Service Line Dept. Supervisor in collaboration
with the Manager, Research Administration, serves as liaison between
assigned departmental areas,  Principal Investigators (PIs) CSMC Service
Areas,  Research Administration and Grant & Fund Accounting.  Performs and
is responsible for a variety of administrative  tasks in support of research
funded by grants and contracts including:  policy implementation,
facilitation of business process, and on-going monitoring to ensure
compliance with CSMC and Research Institute policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

*       Monitors research business transactions and ensures grant
compliance; identifies and resolves transaction problems consulting with
P.I. and Grant & Contract Officer and Grant & Fund Accounting staff.  This
includes compliance issues as appropriate.

*       Assists PIs, their staff, and departments in monitoring research
financial related activities.  May develop and prepare, budgets, financial
reports, analysis of expenditure variances, prevent and/or eliminate
deficits, and will assist in tracking expenditures, etc.

*       In collaboration with Grant & Contract Officer interprets and
ensures compliance with policies and procedures of sponsoring agencies and
CSMC Research Institute for P.I.(s) and research personnel.

*       Coordinates pre and post award activities of grants and contracts to
facilitate proposal submission, account set up, and project initiation.  In
collaboration with Research Administration, develops and conducts training
on Research Institute and Health System related policies and procedures for
P.I.(s) and departmental and research staff.  Is responsible for
identification of attendees and follow up to ensure their practice reflects
training.

*       Assists PI with IRB/IACUC submissions or other compliance
activities. May coordinate/facilitate human resource activities on behalf of
research personnel (recruitment, PAF processing, tracking performance
evaluations, JACHO compliance, etc.)

*       May assist Manager in team development of policy / procedures.
Performs other projects and/or duties as assigned.  (e.g. develops procedure
manual).

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES

*       Typically a BA or BS degree with a minimum of three (3) years grant
and contract administration experience or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
*       Thorough knowledge of current research administration which includes
grant and contract processing for both private and governmental agencies;
agency policies and procedures, and  governmental regulations.
*       Strong knowledge of mathematics and/or accounting.  Grant and
contract accounting and research  budget development and forecasting
desirable.
*       Strong analytical ability, problem solving skills, and attention to
detail, accuracy, timeliness, etc.
*       Excellent organization and communication skills, interpersonal, oral
and written.
*       Demonstrated experience as team player required
*       Ability to work in dynamic environment with continuously changing
multiple conflicting priorities among many clients.  Ability to meet time
lines and work under pressure.
*       Knowledge of human resource and administrative policy and procedure
and demonstrated ability to correctly interpret and implement them.

infection control regulations, etc.
