Re: Need Model Policy for "Off-the-Street" Projects Deborah L. (Debbie) Smith (901) 448-5587 23 Jun 1999 09:52 EST

Our policies relate only to proposals submitted by our faculty/staff;
therefore, we don't accept proposals from outsiders.

If a person has no formal affiliation with our institution, we have no way of
controlling the individual or the project . . . so we would not sign off on it.

We haven't had one of these in a very long time, but in the past we had a few .
. . from someone who "knew" someone here or from faculty spouses looking to
find employment if they brought in their own grant (some not even related to
the mission of this institution!). Unless a person has a position (paid or
unpaid) or shows evidence (e.g., from the department head) that they will have
a position here, we do not sign off on a proposal for them. We can only make
promises for our folks.
