Herbert (and RESADM-L)
While I can't argue with much of your logic, that is...we as research
administrators need to make the research process as easy as possible for our
faculty...and facilitate excellence in research by providing a "can-do"
approach...I still believe that we must play a critical role in the
motivation process. If we honestly believe we really don't effect research
motivation, then we won't!!
Of course, higher level administrators must be the prime motivators. But
that motovation must flow down to the lowest levels of research
administration. If we don't all buy-in to the concept, the faculty surely
won't. Even our student assistants understand that they play a very
important role in motovating research at the University of Florida, IFAS.
And if,for one second, we allow the concept of "nitpickers and roadblocks"
to be assoicated with our profession, our research programs are forever
doomed.
