Re: How to Network MDaniel@xxxxxx 13 May 1999 13:50 EST

Suzette & other RESADM-L subscribers,

This is a perfect topic for a regional NCURA meeting, and I'm sure you'll
get
some good suggestions. I found myself in need of similar information when I
moved from university-based sponsored programs administration into a
non-profit
healthcare grants position. The interest groups of SRA, NCURA and similar
organizations are good resources, and I try to attend at least one of the
national meetings a year to get in on these opportunities. One of the first
things I did after taking this job at a small community hospital was make a
 list
of resources -- publications, people, and organizations. Most helpful to me
 have
been the individuals from my past life in university administration whom I
can
call upon at a moment's notice with questions I am embarrassed to admit I
don't
know the answers to (you know who you are). If they don't already have an
informal link already established with an experienced colleague, I would
encourage newcomers to take advantage of the mentoring opportunities of
NCURA
and SRA for just such a purpose.

I posted the query below earlier and wanted to elaborate.
My target audience will be newcomers to Research
Administration. This session will provide survival tools and
networking is my segment. Any information that you might
have on how to network with colleagues, where to go for
questions, etc... will be helpful.
I am giving a short presentation at the NCURA regional
conference next week. I would like to hear from anyone who
has collected "How to Network" information. I am putting
together notes and thought I would utilize the list-serve.
I plan to introduce list-serves in my segment, so, if you
know of any great list-serve's, other than this one, pass
them along. Thank you for any information provided!
Suzette
