Re: Publications Dr. Charles E. Graham 10 Mar 1999 16:49 EST

I get far more milage out of SPIN (comprehensive funding opportunity
database and SMARTS (funding opportunity alert system) than I could
possibly do from print services. I have discontinued all of them. We can't
keep up with which faculty would be interested in each topic, and so
encourage use of SMARTS to keep themselves informed. For those who take the
trouble to use it, it works well. SPIN is useful to me not only for funding
searches for faculty, but also for looking up program info for office use.
Both incorporate CBD and Fed Register (selected for items of likely
interest to universities). If you take labor and quality of service into
account these are better value than print (products of InfoEd International
Inc. - they have graduated prices for small institutions) We also use Grant
Advisor: the only one worth its price because they allow local
reproduction. Charlie.
