NSF PCF Follow-up Don Weber 17 Feb 1999 17:09 EST

Thanks to those of you who responded to my inquiry regarding where I might
find the NSF Proposal Classification Form (PCF). Indeed, as each of you
pointed out the PCF will be made available through a form selector screen
once a division, cluster or program within the Directorate for Biological
Sciences has been selected as the organizational review unit for the cover
page . However (as I've since learned from reading the Fastlane FAQs !),
this will only happen when the Bio Science unit is the first or only
organizational unit to review the proposal. In our case we were attempting
to submit a proposal to the Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program.
As we understood the MRI instructions we were to identify both the MRI
program and an appropriate organizational unit on the cover page. Under
this condition, ie, the Bio Science unit was not the first or only
organizational unit, we were not presented with a form selector screen that
included the PCF, we were simply returned (time and again!!) to the Cover
Page.
Needless to say, we submitted the proposal without the PCF and I have a
call into NSF to see how to proceed with sending them the PCF.
Hopefully, this info may save some of you from the frustration that we
encountered.
Again, thanks to those of you who responded to my SOS!
