DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Administrative Director and the Vice-Chairman for Research, the
successful candidate will be responsible for the administration of sponsored
project grants and contracts for the Department of Medicine.  Duties include
advising faculty in the preparation and processing of applications, ensuring
compliance with agency and institution policies; budget review and budget
preparation assistance; liaison with sponsors; troubleshooting problems on
sponsored projects, and ensuring that proposals and other documents are managed
in accordance with institutional and sponsor requirements. Provide support to
relevant faculty, staff and postdoctoral fellows in matters related to the
identification and dissemination of funding source information. Participate in
the development and implementation of policies and procedures; maintain up-to-
date knowledge and expertise in federal/state/private agencies' regulations and
policies; and stay abreast of new/changing laws and OMB circulars which affect
sponsored program activities. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required, with 3-5 year's experience in research
administration.  Knowledge of Federal and Non-Federal regulations and operation
of policies of sponsored research, including OMB Circulars, A-21, A-110 and A-
133, PHS grants policy statement and all FARs. Requires current knowledge of the
relevant application and compliance requirements of a variety of sponsor
agencies.  Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required, as well as
expertise in electronic communications, databases, and using the WWW.

Must be service-oriented and be able to work in a team structure with a wide
diversity of faculty, sponsors and administrators. In addition, must also be
action oriented, and be able to function effectively in a fast-moving, demanding
environment under the pressure of externally determined deadlines and with
frequent interruption. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are
required.

Position requires knowledge and experience of pre-award research administration
in an academic setting, preferably a health science center. Strong interpersonal
skills, a high degree of organizational skills and leadership abilities are
required.  Ability to take initiative, to prioritize workload, and to work
independently, while keeping management apprised of issues which may arise.
