Severance Pay Frank DiSanto 13 Jul 1998 17:49 EST

Section J. 43 of A-21 details the conditions under which severance
payments might be allowable. I'd like to hear from any institutions
that actually provide such compensation on regular basis to terminating
employees, pursuant to the conditions specified in this section of the
circular.

What type of compensation do you provide? Do you ever pay a firm to
assist a terminated employee find other work, as part of the severance
package? If so, have such payments been reviewed and approved by the
funding agency prior to the expenditure? Have there been any audit
exceptions raised in conjunction with severance payments to a terminated
employee, or on behalf of such a person? If so, what was the outcome?

Any feedback on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Frank
