Summary Job Description

The Associate Director is responsible for managing the daily operations of
the Grants Management Office with special attention focused on managing the
post-award fiscal activities of sponsored projects.  During fiscal year
1997, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio received
approximately $65 million in federal awards and in excess of $112 million
for all sponsored activites.

Specific responsibilities include providing guidance to departmental
administrators regarding post-award management of sponsored agreements;
leading and directing staff in preparing and reviewing financial entries and
reports to ensure that all financial reporting complies with institution,
State, and sponsor requirements; preparing special financial and
informational reports regarding activity of sponsored projects for senior
administration, principal investigators, department and school
administrators, and external sponsors.

Other responsibilities include serving as the primary administrative
financial contact for all agreements concerning clinical services and
leading the institution's activities with respect to Cost Accounting
Standards and its facilities and administrative cost rate proposal
preparation.  The Associate Director supervises the department in the
absence of the Director; as well, this position will be responsible for day
to day workload scheduling of hourly and salaried employees and will,
together with the Director, make decisions regarding various staffing issues
such as hiring, measuring performance, promotions, and determining compensation.

A candidate should possess a Bachelor's Degree and have a minimum of seven
years' job related prior experience.  The successful candidate should have
good communication and reasoning skills and have some familiarity with
university operations and management as well as grants management and
accounting principles.  An MBA or CPA is preferred.
