The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, a major natural sciences
research institution and museum, invites applications for the position of
Administrative Director
of its Biodiversity Group.  This position is responsible for the
Biodiversity Group's day-to- day operations, including finances and budget
($2.4 million), personnel (30+), and facilities (offices, labs,
collections, storage).  The Biodiversity Group is responsible for the
Academy's research collections, comprising 20 million specimens of plants,
animals, and fossils.  This position reports to the Biodiversity Group's
Vice President.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop annual operating budget; prepare quarterly financial projections;
review outgoing grant proposals; manage personnel actions (hires,
terminations, performance reviews, etc.); coordinate with all other groups
in institution as necessary for research collaborations, exhibit
development, education programs, library projects, and development
activities.   Manage special projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Bachelor's degree and five years experience in administration,
preferably in a museum or research environment.  Prefer candidates with the
following:  knowledge of and experience with the laws, ethics, and accepted
practices of museum collections; demonstrated experience with budget
development, financial projections, grants and contracts; familiarity with
complexities of non-profit financial management, strategic planning, and
business development.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
