POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
DIRECTOR OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS
THE JACKSON LABORATORY

The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a high energy individual to direct a
combined pre-and post-award grants and contracts office.  The incumbent
also will have specific responsibility for managing the pre-award program
functions.

The incumbent reports to the Chief Operating Officer and receives guidance
from the Associate Director for Research on research program priorities and
initiatives.  Close coordination with institutional advancement and
intellectual property staff is required.

Must have experience in the administration of the full range of sponsored
research administration activities including pre-proposal, proposal, budget
preparation, post-award grant administration, contracting and
subcontracting.

Ability to negotiate effectively with internal and external clienteles,
reconcile differing viewpoints, work independently and achieve deadlines
and adjust to changing priorities is essential for success.

Candidates with a masters or doctoral degree preferred and a minimum of 5
years of successful managerial experience.  Experience working in a
combined pre-and post-award grants office and Certified Research
Administration (CRA) status is preferred.  Since the Laboratory is
predominantly NIH funded, candidates experienced with managing funding
through the NIH are preferred.
