Re: reverse site visit expenses Bruce Steinert, PhD - Urology Research 09 Apr 1997 07:00 EST

We were awarded a U01 (consortium contract) to participate as a site in a
multicenter study in 1990. The RFA specified that travel for the PI and
research coordinator to DC was needed twice annually for training and
steering committee meetings. We included them in the budget as direct
cost travel items. No problem with approval of the funds.

Since your trip is directly attributable to this project, I would not
opt for charging to indirect costs. Although the costs might be eligible
for IDC recovery depending on your calculation method. If no funds were
budgeted (i.e., surprise cost), contact the Project Officer and request
additional funds to cover the costs. Worse case is they say no.
Alternative...you DO have the PIs American Express # on file DON'T you?
;-)

Hope that helps,
Bruce
