Associate Director, Research Administration

 The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking an
Associate Director of the Office of Research Administration (ORA). The
Associate Director will coordinate the daily operations of the ORA;
review grant applications for consistency with UAMS and sponsor policy;
supervise the Grant Specialist and the Contract Administrator; monitor
the centralized ORA database and generate reports as required; stay
current on developments in electronic research administration (ERA), and
update the UAMS research community on changes in sponsor policy and
procedures, especially for the NIH.
 The Associate Director will also support the Director in matters of
policy and strategy. The Associate Director will have an in-depth
understanding of the culture of academic healthcare and the service role
of research administration. Candidates must have a B.A., strong computer
and Internet skills, and substantial experience in multiple aspects of
research administration. The ORA consists of a Director plus eight
staff, including the Institutional Review Board for the campus. The
Associate Director will be expected expected to interact productively
with all staff.
 UAMS, with annual extramural awards approaching $50 million, consists
of the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health-Related
Professions, the Graduate School, and University Hospital, all of which
are served by the ORA. UAMS faculty are also located at affiliates: the
Arkansas Children's Hospital, the John L. McClellan Veterans
Administration Medical Center, and the Area Health Education Centers
(AHEC).
