Question regarding NICHD-funded Mental Retardation Center Paul Benson 24 Sep 1996 11:15 EST

We have a faculty member at our university who is requesting that a
grant of his be transferred from our institution to a nearby NICHD-
funded mental retardation and developmental disabilities research
center (MRDDRC). Her rationale for the request is that the center
has the infrastructure needed to facilitate subject recruitment of
the rare clinical populations he needs for his work. I have been
told that NICHD policy does not allow MRDDRCs to lend any support
to researchers whose grants are not completely housed in the MRDDRC.
I am interested in developing a collaborative relationship with this
center, but am not willing to simply move the grant. Does anyone
know if P30 NICHD grants used to fund these centers does actually
say that they may not extend support to projects located in other
institutions.

I would also appreciate hearing anyone else's experience with problems
similar to this one. Thanks.
