Re: Mailed Survey Incentives: $2 Bills Erin Booth 21 Sep 1996 14:24 EST

Hi,

For what it's worth, on the Canadian prairies (and I assume the
American midwest) there is a historical superstition regarding $2
bills. As the Wild West was being settled, often towns became full
of saloons, brothels, etc. Anyway, the $2 bill was what was commonly
used to pay a prostitute. Even as recently as 2 generations ago, it
was considered improper to give a lady a $2 bill -- often used as an
insult. In Canada, up until we replaced it with a coin last year,
there were still comparatively few $2 bills in circulation in the
western provinces than in the east & the maritimes.

Hope that's helpful.
Erin
