Research Committee Responsibilities -Reply Pam Fillmore 09 May 1996 08:46 EST

At Emporia State University, our internal research committee is
responsible for awarding research grants to faculty from our
internal funds. That is done once a year, in January. They also
revise the Program Guidelines whenever necessary. A
subcommittee also reviews nominations and awards the
President's Award for Research and Creativity in the spring.
That's all. Its hard enough to get them all together a couple times
a year to do that. The committee is composed of 10 faculty
representing the four schools and colleges, and the Graduate
Dean.

Our internal research committee is struggling with an identity
crisis and responsibility change. In the past (and present) they
seem to serve more as
an administrative function to the Office of Research. The main
charge is peer review of grants funded by internal monies. There
are other lesser
responsibilities but they need more. Would other institutions
share their
research committee responsibilities, goals or objectives with me in
order to pull together a fresh focus to ours?
