Travel funds from DOE Kathleen Harris 13 Mar 1996 09:50 EST

I need some information from research administrators who have experience
with faculty members working at the Fermi Lab.

Within the past few years we have developed a particle physics group. They
are now in the second year of funding from DOE; much of this work takes
place at the Fermi Lab. The faculty members have now asked that the
university not recover indirect costs on a supplemental award for travel.
According to them, the only way DOE will award these funds to the university
is if we will waive indirect costs. Otherwise DOE will award the funds
through Fermi, as apparently was done last year but which proved to be
somewhat inconvenient for the faculty members.

Has anyone else experienced this situation? Did you waive indirect costs?

Thanks in advance for your help.
