Conflict of interest procedures Ellen J. Durand 06 Nov 1995 16:55 EST

Faculty at our university are concerned about the time delay which will
undoubtedly occur when an award is made and there is a significant financial
interest which will have to be reviewed to determine if a conflict of
interest exists and then managed before funds can be made available. Are
any universities suggesting or mandating determination of the existence of
a conflict and its management before an award is made? We have suggested
that if faculty are reasonably certain they will be awarded and also
reasonably certain that they have a conflict, that they begin considering
how they might manage the conflict to save time once the award is made.
