UCLA is seeking an experienced attorney to be the Legal Director
of a newly created Industry Research Partnerships group within the
sponsored research office.

The Legal Director works collaboratively with the Business
Development Director to provide leadership in developing and
implementing an aggressive and cohesive strategy for building
effective relations with potential private industry sponsors, for
linking potential sponsors to researchers at the University, for
marketing existing competencies, and for developing faculty
outreach programs; develops and implements symposia for
industry-faculty interaction; develops networks to gain information
about faculty interests and to increase faculty-industry linkages;
negotiates and signs agreements with industry that maximize the
positions of the University and the research faculty; and counsels
faculty and staff on legal principles involved in negotiating with
industry.

Qualifications:  Admitted to practice in the State of California, or
eligible for admission.  Significant demonstrated experience in
transactional negotiation, structuring business transactions, drafting
agreements, client counseling, and legal analysis and argument.
Demonstrated working knowledge of trademark, copyright and
patent law, business associations, contract law and tort law.
Demonstrated ability to supervise professional teams.  Experience
in computer/multimedia law, federal regulations governing testing
and marketing of medical drugs/devices, and international business
transactions preferred.  General knowledge of antitrust law,
securities law, environmental regulation and administrative law.
Degree in engineering, science or business preferred.  Interpersonal
skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a
multicultural, diverse body of faculty members, staff, students and
industry representatives.  This position is subject to University
Conflict of Interest Code.  Selected candidate will be required to
complete a financial statement for public record.

Annual salary range:  $75,800 to $113,700.  Starting salary
