Regarding Comvalius question on how to set up committees to evaluate whether a
grant proposal meets the mission of the university, more clarification is
required. Will proposals not fitting the school's mission be stopped? or is
this merely to advise the Development Office where to focus for fund-raising?

Without clarification, the question sounds ominous. Academic freedom suggests
that the activities of each faculty member a priori meets the mission of the
University. Was it not at Columbia during an address by Eisenhower that a
faculty member pointed out that the faculty "was the University"?
