Thanks to those who responded to me on the above. On the whole, I can surmise
that forward planning is either outside the remit of the majority of people on
this list (is this possible?)or perhaps not everyone took the chance to respond.

Please bear with me while I post once again - I will share the results with the
list in due course.

At the University of Limerick (Ireland) we are preparing a Vision 2020 exercise
which aims to set out a "vision" or a broad development strategy of the
University for the next 25 years. It is initially intended to create wildly
futuristic scenarios on the university of the future. This will be followed by a

more sedate planning strategy for 2000 and a sequence of five yearly plans.

In particular, my group is looking at the External/Network relationships between

the university and the outside community, eg. industry, other universities, the
funding situation, sponsors and clients in the national, international and
international contexts. Other groups are dealing with the broad themes of
"University and Society 2020" and "Research 2020" etc.

Initially I'm aiming to track down documentation on similar exercises carried
out in other institutions in other countries. I'm interested in reports from
governments, forecasting institutes, industry, major companies and universities.

I would like to know if any of your institutions have undergone this, and if I
could have reports (or summaries) sent to me at the address below. Reports to
the year 2010 or even 2015 will not be sneezed at!
