We, too, at Indiana University have put some effort into posting and
maintaining information on the IU Gopher server and training staff
and faculty on accessing grant-related information on other gopher
servers.

The VP's office also maintains a Web site, which enables access to
our Gopher services. (Check out http://www/indiana.edu:80/~rugs/)

It's clear to me that Web is the place where we need to concentrate
any new efforts, and into which we need to expand existing efforts.
It's not that big of a deal to format information for both a gopher
server and a web site, and I expect it will get easier as html
evolves. They key for information providers is to have access to
really good technical people so that we don't spend lots of
frustrating hours learning this stuff on our own.

What about the information users? We're still making the transition
from paper to electronic transmission of funding opportunity
information. For our users who can't (or won't) access our
electronic stuff, we'll provide paper copy (with a smile). I think
we're just on the technology continuum from paper to gopher to web,
and our problem here in administration is really not to agonize over
which technology is best, but to make some judgments on the most
efficient ways to provide appropriate information to our
researchers.
