Royalty revenues John Farrant 13 Jun 1994 08:01 EST

A recent article in a UK journal quotes the London Financial Times as
saying that the estimated total royalty income to US universities and
government laboratories as $45M in 1989/90. This strikes me as low:
does anyone know of any other estimates (or harder data)? The same
article also reports, without comment, that Stanford's royalties in
1987 were $10M (i.e. perhaps 25% of a US total). I'm wanting to get
some idea of what revenue accrues to a higher education system which is
seen as much better than Britain in technology transfer.
