Charging Human Subjects PHIL SPINA, RSP, WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY 07 Jun 1994 20:24 EST

Dear Ghislaine (and other readers)

I know how my IRB would respond to charging patients for their voluntary
participation in clinical trials. They'd never stand for it. I wonder
how US insurance companies would view this.

The only way I think the IRB would approve such an arrangement would be if
the charges were for items that were part of the standard care for the
disease which they would receive if they were not in the study

Sounds like the company is trying to do the study on the cheap.
