NSF Policy Change Lou Pellegrino 12 May 1994 09:56 EST

In case anyone hasn't noticed, as of May 2, 1994, NSF is no
longer including the 6 month "flexibility period" in all new
NSF awards issued on/after that date.

Also, the new GC-1 Grant General Conditions issued this
week allows grantees to authorize a one-time no-cost
extension of up to 12 months, if additional time is required to
complete the original scope of work. However, such an
extension must be granted prior to the original expiration
date and the letter notifying the Grants Officer must contain
supporting reasons for the extension and must be sent to
NSF at least 10 days prior to the expiration of the grant.
[GC-1, Section 4, p.2, 5/94].

This may or may not have an impact on how each of us
notifies our NSF PIs about expiration of their grants and the
processing of no-cost extension requests.
