Dept. Commerce Ann R. Stevens 10 May 1994 12:36 EST

For those of you at private institutions who have Dept. Commerce
funding, I really would appreciate a reply as quickly as possible to
this question.

We have our first application going into Commerce tomorrow.
In order to have the application reviewed, the signing individual
must complete a form that requests extremely personal information,
e.g., SSN, Employment last three years, Residence last three years,
Any criminal convictions, etc.

Commerce says that it is required to establish the character and
integrity of principles at organizations who receive funding. They
have told us also that they might require others at university
(applicant) to provide same information, e.g., President, V.P.s,
Secretary, etc.

I am astonished that Commerce has gotten away with this. Have any of
you provided this information with your applications. Many tbanks
