Not only do I agree with you Ryan, I see your wanting someone to find opportunities for them and raise you the following REAL ACTUAL comment from a faculty member regarding this topic.  And yes, this is literally a verbatim quote ~

In a perfect world, the grant office would maintain a database for each researcher detailing the work they are undertaking. The grant office could then scour the current grant offering to see if there is a match with a researching on campus. If a match is found, the office could contact the researcher, determine interest, set up a personal meeting to discuss steps, and help the researcher with the grant information and submission. I want to do research so I've been basically hobbling along with what I can find. I attempted at one time to pursue grants but it felt like each time I identified something, I would find out many hours later that I didn't qualify for that particular grant or the grant didn't apply to our type of institution or etc. I eventually decided my time would be much better spent attempting to solve the research problems on my own.
