JOB SUMMARY:
The Program Director for Research Education and Training has overall responsibility and authority to plan, implement, manage, oversee, and evaluate CTSI research education and training programs and projects at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.  Major programs of the CTSI Research Education and Training Program are internally and extramurally funded and include: the KL2 Mentored Career Development Program, the Translational Research and Mentor Academies, the TL1 Post-doctoral Training Program, the Translational Workforce Development Program, and the Medical Student Research Program. The position represents the CTSI Directors and the Administrative Director on a variety of national and institutional committees and working groups, as delegated by the PIs.
The Research Education Program Director works with faculty and staff leadership to assure the success of the CTSI Education programs by leading improvement initiatives, promptly addressing issues as they arise, and developing programs that improve the effectiveness of the CTSI and directly enhance the quality of research conducted at Wake Forest.  This individual will have a minimum of 3 direct reports and work closely with the CTSI Administrative Director and other CTSI leadership in carrying out all responsibilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
•	Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
•	A minimum of four years’ experience in healthcare education, biomedical research, and/or translational research
•	Experience in managing and supervising staff
•	Strong pedagogical and adult education knowledge and skills
•	Proven organizational and analytic skills
•	Strong project management skills
•	Strong meeting facilitation skills
•	Outstanding oral and written communication skills
•	Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate well to learners and stakeholders at all levels within the Medical School and the community

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensures the achievement of CTSI Research Education and Training Program objectives by leading the development, implementation, and management of programs, resources, and services including administering the KL2 Mentored Career Development Program, TL1 Postdoctoral Training Program, Translational Research and Mentor Academies, Medical Student Research Program, and the Research Workforce Development Program initiatives.

Provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight ensuring the mission and aims of the CTSI Education Program are being met. Provides guidance and advice to CTSI leadership, staff, and other School of Medicine and external collaborators to integrate CTSI Education programs across the School and to the CTSA national network.

Overall management of the CTSA KL2 Mentored Career Development Program, including RFA development, application management, review process for selection of awardees; coordination of specialized educational opportunities for KL2 Scholars; oversight of KL2 mentoring committee activities; and tracking of outcomes of KL2 Scholars. Serves as chief liaison for NCATS/NIH required elements of the KL2 program.

Administers the Translational Research and Mentor Academies including management of cohort application and selection process; curriculum development and implementation; training facilitation; and evaluation and outcomes reporting management.

Manages the development of widely accessible, high quality educational offerings, both in-person and online courses, that meet identified learning needs for a variety of institutional learners including research intensive faculty and staff, trainees, and health system workforce.

Prepares analytical reports and presentations on progress of CTSI Education programs for internal and external stakeholders. Develops agendas and raises topics for discussion at CTSI Leadership and Core Faculty meetings, especially related to CTSI education programs; leads and contributes to discussions and provides timely follow-up on action items.

Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates program staff. Develops policies and procedures and makes recommendations for effective management and coordination of all CTSI Education program staff and programs.

Maintains effective communication and collaborates with CTSI and WF School of Medicine entities to ensure successful achievement of education program objectives.  Primary collaborations include CTSI Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Clinical Research, Human Research Protection Program, Animal Research, and Animal Research Program and the WF Offices of Graduate Medical Education and Medical Education.

Convenes institutional stakeholders for research education, e.g. Training Grant Directors, Graduate School Leadership and Graduate Program Directors, to identify opportunities for synergy and collaboration in research education initiatives.

Serves as the CTSI representative with respect to the Research Education portfolio to NIH/NCATS Program Officer and other key national consortium collaborators, and other areas as directed by the CTSI leadership. Takes on leadership roles, participates, and conducts presentations in national Consortium committees related to Research Education.
With collaborators, develops, prepares, and submits applications for extramural grants to advance the CTSI Education mission, especially with respect to the Education portfolio, including new, renewal or supplemental grants or contracts from the NIH and other funders. Responsibilities include identifying funding opportunities, project planning, project management, data collection, narrative writing, editing and reviewing.
Responsible for, and directly supervises, regulatory reporting and ensures compliance with government regulations and funding requirements.  Oversees and ensures timely progress reports to funders, PI(s) and Administration Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
