GRANT AND CONTRACT ACCOUNTANT

Responsibilities: The Grant and Contract Accountant position is responsible for the financial administration and accounting of the extramural gifts, grants, contracts, and trust accounts awarded to the University by federal, corporate, state, municipal, foreign, and philanthropic sources.

Specific duties include analyzing expenditures for compliance with the approved budget, policies, and guidelines; coordinating the correction and adjustment of entries; reviewing and approving entries; and reconciling accounting information to the approved budget. In addition, the Grant and Contract Accountant is responsible for creating financial reports, invoices, statements, and schedules; analyzing and interpreting approved budgets, award documents, and contracts; and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with fiscal requirements. The individual in this role also audits daily accounting data for compliance with regulations; coordinates deposits of extramural support revenue, including allocations to appropriate funds, accounts, and revenue codes; reconciles receipts; and develops non-routine statistical reports or surveys on an as-needed basis.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Qualified candidates will possess a comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, federal OMB circulars, and large integrated computerized accounting systems (e.g., PeopleSoft Financials, SAP, etc.). Technical skills include the ability to use office applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, the Internet, and e-mail), and the ability to develop and use databases. Other skills and abilities include strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others as a member of a team; excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, handle confidential issues, and solve problems effectively; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, establish priorities, and set deadlines to accomplish daily and weekly activities.

Salary:  $45,990 to $75,884
