UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE
Graduate School

Senior Administrative Program Specialist
PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

General Information: The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus is located on Milwaukee’s Upper East Side, one of the city’s most attractive residential areas. UWM is one of two doctoral institutions within the University of Wisconsin-System. The Graduate School supports the academic mission of the University by designing and delivering high quality programs to facilitate access to high quality graduate education, success in research and scholarship, and a supportive climate for our graduate students, their Major Advisors and Principal Investigators, and other graduate program stakeholders. The Graduate School is home to 33 doctoral programs, 53 master’s programs, 32 certificate programs and leads one of the oldest, most successful McNair Programs in the country. In the past 10 years the number of doctoral students has grown by approximately 70%, and the extramural funding has increased by 200%, providing substantial support for the research component of graduate studies.

Responsibilities: The Proposal Development Manager will be responsible for advising and assisting faculty in the research, planning, development, writing, and submission of scientific/technical, scholarly, and public service grant and contract proposals to secure extra-mural funding. This position will provide grant research, preparation, and writing training for various research funding opportunities to faculty in keeping with university policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations for proposal submission. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse work force. Reporting to the Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), the position will provide timely and direct customer service to Principal Investigators.

The Proposal Development Manager will act as lead in the proposal development services function in OSP, coordinating the activities of a half-time Grant Development Specialist whose full-time appointment is shared with the Biomedical and Health Informatics Research Institute.
