 Dear Colleagues,

I have some questions regarding joint appointments and I am hoping someone out there can share their thoughts or their Institutions current policies.

 *   How would you deal with effort reporting (with joint appointments) when you have two separate effort reporting systems and separate accounting systems?

 *   I have a second question which could be best described by a hypothetical example.  The University budgets 10% of the Hospital’s PI’s effort on 7/1/10 for a University grant (paid by joint appointment).  The budget is based on the PI’s salary in July.  However, on 9/1/10 the PI gets a salary increase of 5%.  The University decides they do not want to (or can’t) absorb this salary increase.  How should this be handled?  I assume it needs to be cost shared by the Hospital.  How would this be reflected when certifying effort when there are two separate effort reporting systems?

Any insight would be much appreciated!
