I have run into this issue. It is an automatically generated system warning that is sent whenever you have the situation that you described.

It should be a warning only and not an error. If it is showing as an error then you may have a bigger issue.

You can just ignore the warning. There is nothing that you can do about it anyway unless you make all of the years more than 250K.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Help with warning

Hi,
I am hoping that someone can help me with the error that I just received on an R01 submission:

WARNING The direct cost requests of $250K or less each year (on the 424 R&R Budget page section F-K) must be in modules of $25K, using the PHS 398 Modular Budget Form and not the R&R Budget Form. Incorrect applications may be delayed in the peer review process or rejected. (7.15.3)

I submitted the application with the R&R budget forms because 3 of the 5 years were over 250K, however 2 years were under 250K. (The PI could not readjust the budget evenly) Has anyone else had this issue? I called the Commons help desk and they said that this was a policy question and they could not provide any advice, so I thought I would throw this out tot he RESADMers.

Thanks,

Marianne Volk
