The University of South Alabama has an opening for an Assistant Director
in the department of Health Systems Grants Administration and
Development.  The Office of Health Systems Grants Administration and
Development performs in a pre- and post-award capacity working with
faculty and staff in the Health Sciences Division (College of Medicine,
College of Nursing and the Allied Health Professions) and the Mitchell
Cancer Institute.

Responsibilities:  The Assistant Director is a grants management
professional performing in pre- award and post-award grants management
administration functions.  The individual hired for this position will
work closely with academic leaders, faculty and staff across campuses to
create an environment and processes that facilitate the University’s
continued commitment to research excellence.

Qualifications

Candidates require a bachelor’s degree and four years of
progressively responsible experience in research or sponsored programs
administration with a sponsoring or recipient organization; or as
associate’s degree and six years of progressively responsible
experience in research or sponsored programs administration with a
sponsoring or recipient organization; or eight years of progressively
responsible experience in research or sponsored programs administration
with a sponsoring or recipient organization.  Certification as a
Certified Research Administrator is highly preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of federal, state and university
regulations for research administration including OMB Circulars,
FAR/DFARS, and federal agency guidelines, and prior work in a higher
education financial or research administration environment is highly
preferred.  Possess an in-depth knowledge of electronic research
administration such as Grants.gov, eRA Commons, eHandbooks, and Fastlane
is highly preferred.

Must be highly organized and ability to work independently; have
exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to
team build. Ability to reconcile differing viewpoints; Strong customer
service orientation in a deadline driven environment. Knowledge or
familiarity with all compliance issues including OMB Circulars, IRB, and
IACUC, RCR, Conflict of Interest and export control is highly desirable.
 Experience directly administering federal grants is highly preferred.
Position requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical
field such as finance, business administration, or contract
administration.  Must be computer oriented with strong knowledge of
Microsoft products, Word Perfect and a working knowledge of database
systems.
