false Commons error message? non-match to parent budget form Jean C. Linder 20 Feb 2009 11:32 EST

Dear Colleagues- Last night I got a fatal error message from the eRA
Commons that appears to be a mistake. The Commons help desk does not
understand it either, and is continuing to research the problem, but
I wondered if any of you had a similar experience, and if you found a solution.

We submitted a "revision" (competing supplement) proposal via
Grants.gov under RFA-AR-09-001. The instructions say to use a
modular budget if you did so in the parent grant, but to use a
detailed budget if that was what was submitted with the parent.

Our error message was: "The parent grant for this revision uses the
non-modular format; therefore, this application may include a
detailed R&R budget component only."

However, our last competing renewal application DID NOT USE the
non-modular format. Perhaps there is a programming mistake in their
validation process. I'm not sure how they would determine this
anyway, as our last competing submission was done on paper PHS 398
forms, with only eSNAPs and minority supplements submitted since.

Any helpful comments? Thanks. -Jean

PS- My Grants.gov log-in and submission worked the first time, and
all emails arrived within 20 minutes! What a shock to have the
problems occur with the NIH validation!
