Apologies Dianne Sheridan 07 Nov 2008 14:36 EST

It was not my intention to be "ugly". Nor was it my intention to send this to the entire list. I just thought she should reevaluate the image she was projecting by sending what seemed to be a personal email, but in fact was a mass email to persons who did not attend the meeting.

Many of my colleagues at other institutions have had excellent relations with SRA and have encouraged me to give them just one more chance - I have not been so fortunate and find them to be nonresponsive and rather impersonal on more than one occasion (over 6 in fact). So please forgive me if I found this to be objectionable.

Again it was not my intent to send it to the list. When I realized I had, I tried to retract it. It was however my intent to send it to SRA and I stand by my feelings and continued perceptions of that organization. I apologize to the list.
Dianne

I cannot imagine why you sent this to me, as not only did I not attend
the SRA conference I also did not contact you about my credit card.
BC'ing the entire list does not seem to be in your best interest.

Dianne,

I looked into this personally since the problem you described on the
listserv seemed to involve SRA directly.

My understanding is that after you reported this problem to the SRA
International staff a month or so ago the staff reviewed office
procedures for processing fax orders. The fax machine is now in a
separate locked room that only SRA International staff can open. We have
not yet heard you're your credit card company so we don't know what they
concluded.

We have had no other reported incidents like the one you have described.
Nonetheless, we do take security issues very seriously and I hope you
will contact me directly if I can do anything more to assist you.

The credit card that I used to register as a vendor at SRA had
unauthorized transactions the day after I faxed my credit card
information to the SRA office. I received a call at home from my credit
card company concerned that there were several purchases of gasoline
from the same gas station in Hartford, Conn. My company is in
California and I had not lost my credit card. I had to cancel the card
and be issued a new one.

My credit card had huge unauthorized transactions a day after I arrived
and was cancelled by my carrier. I was fortunate to have a colleague
attending the same meeting pick up other expenses during my stay since I
only carry one credit card when traveling. This new corporate credit
card was used for the first time during this trip.

I don't want to make this look too alarming, but those of you who
traveled to SRA annual meeting may want to check your credit card
statements for unauthorized transactions. I had one that originated in
MD ten days after I left National Harbor, and the only place where I
gave out my card details was at the hotel where we all stayed. The
charge was not from the hotel, perhaps somebody got access to the hotel
records. My bank is investigating it, but in the meantime I thought I'd
let you know.
