Re: course release question Dianne Sheridan 01 Jul 2008 18:57 EST

We write our budgets based on the % of effort the PI will expend and do
so at their current contract rate (aor adjusted contract rate if the
grant will extend past the current period) plus standard benefits
package rate. I would be hesitant to write the budget in the manner
suggested.

I have a question concerning release time on grant budgets. Many of
our
faculty want to use the cost of an adjunct plus fringe benefits on a
budget when they want to ask for a course release—to keep costs down.
 Our
Dean would like to charge the real/full cost of the faculty’s course

release (say, 20% of full salary) plus full fringe benefits. Can
anyone
share with me their institution’s policy on how to budget course
release
time on a grant proposal? Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bob DeMartino
