The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, non-profit organization
focusing on mammalian genetics research to advance human health. Our
more than 1,300 employees: conduct genetic research; provide
scientific services and genetic resources to laboratories around the
world; and educate students of all ages through courses, internships
and other programs.

Description:

There is a regular, full-time position available as a Contracts &
Budgets Specialist in the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Responsibilities include:

' Managing The Jackson Laboratory (TJL) subcontract portfolio which
currently totals approximately $25 million annually; overseeing
negotiations, execution and management of all subcontracts and
consortium agreements, both where TJL is prime recipient as well as
where TJL is subrecipient; reviewing all agreements for appropriate
compliance and regulatory flow-downs; working directly with
scientific staff and collaborating institutions for resolution of any
outstanding contractual or budgetary issues.
' Working directly with scientific staff to develop all grant
application budgets for submissions to sponsoring agencies, ensuring
compliance with sponsor mandated budget requirements; coordinating
budget submission materials with Grants Office staff.
' Establishing all approved grant and institutional research program
budgets in concert with Principal Investigators and Post-Award
Services staff; preparing all progress report budgets for submission
to sponsoring agencies.
' Preparing forecast and budget detail for TJL's research budget and
indirect cost budget, as well as all non-research sponsored program
funding, under the direction of Senior Director, Sponsored Programs.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include:

' Proficiency obtained through a minimum of an Associate's degree and
knowledge of concepts, practices, procedures and regulations of
subcontract/consortium agreement management as would normally be
acquired through completion of a minimum of two years of professional
experience in a position in which sponsored program administration
and regulatory compliance and/or budget development were major
responsibilities.
' Knowledge of business/budgeting principles and demonstrated ability
to develop complex spreadsheets are essential.
' Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a high-profile
environment requiring discretion, judgment, confidentiality and
diplomacy.
' Must possess the ability to work in a deadline driven environment,
and must be able to accommodate grant deadline schedules with
occasional unanticipated late hours.
