Re: Grants.gov and sharing large files Bob Beattie 16 Jan 2008 15:40 EST

We have a server to receive applications. Go here

http://www.research.umich.edu/era/grantsgov/index.html

and read about DRDA Drop Box, in upper right corner, click on
"instructions."

Users must log in with their UM name and password to make the transfer.

When file is uploaded, a message goes to the 4 people in the DRDA
work group associated with the sponsor (and to me). Also back to the
PI and staff who uploaded.

The Grants Office staff (DRDA) get the message and one will open the
file, message goes to all the same people that the file is opened.
Then DRDA staff down load the file from server to desktop and work on
it -- checking for problems. Then submit it and put a copy on a
different archive server.

If there are problems bigger than Grants Office staff can fix, we
send it back.
If it has errors from sponsor, we send it back via the server. The
process in reverse. PI (or PI's staff) fixes and re uploads and
process starts over.

Does your institution have a system for PIs to transfer .xfd files to
your office for proposal review? How do you deal with storing large
data files in the process of handling Grants.gov proposals? Do you
have a secure area where PIs can upload the file, or do they
send .xfd files to administrators as email attachments?
