The Office for Sponsored Programs at the University of Connecticut,
Storrs Campus, is seeking a Grants Assistant (Financial Assistant II) to
provide support to a post-award grant administration team.  This is a
high-volume, customer-service oriented position in a fast-paced,
centralized research administration office.

Specific responsibilities will include: set up project folders; input
new awards and other entries into grant database and accounting system;
process cost transfers; prepare journal entries for deficits, payroll
adjustments, and other items as directed; maintain and monitor records
related to accounts as well as fiscal procedures for compliance with
policies and regulations; correct errors in data input; obtain match
information for award set up and close out; produce and distribute
various reports, run FOCUS reports as needed; prepare financial
information and correspondence; send out deficit and other letters for
team members, and follow up as needed; perform other tasks as requested.

Minimum acceptable qualifications include:  Five to ten years of
progressively responsible experience in financial record-keeping and
reporting where the primary day-to-day duties of the position included
the preparation and processing of accounting and budget transactions.
The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of accounting practices
and procedures including accounting and fiscal control procedures, and
the ability to assist in analysis/interpretation and preparation of
budgets within established guidelines.  Must be able to work
collaboratively or independently and to exercise sound judgment within
scope of authority.  Preferred:  Bachelor's degree in accounting or
related area and two to four years related experience.

Experience using computerized spreadsheets, databases and
word-processing applications required, Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
Knowledge of grants administration a plus.  Must be available to work an
established schedule between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and
occasional evening hours as necessitated in order to accommodate
customer-service objectives.

Grants and Contracts Specialist I (UCP VI)

The Office for Sponsored Programs at the University of Connecticut,
Storrs Campus, is seeking an experienced accounting professional to
manage sponsored research accounts in accordance with Federal and State
laws, University policies and sponsor guidelines.

The position requires a strong accounting background and use of sound
fiscal practices to perform complex grant accounting functions
including:  Interpretation of grant terms and conditions to ensure
proper account set-up; preparation and input of budgets into mainframe
accounting and grant tracking systems; ongoing monitoring of accounting
and financial activity on sponsored project accounts; final
determination of the allowability of expenditures; review and approval
of budget revisions; and preparation of journal entries for corrections
or adjustments to grant accounts.

The Grant Manager will work with University administrators and
researchers and advise in interpretation and application of relevant
policies and regulations on budgetary issues affecting project accounts.
The Grant Manager will also act as a liaison between the University,
sponsor and Principal Investigator, provide oversight or assistance to
meet reporting obligations at account closeout, maintain complete and
accurate records and documentation, and exercise good judgment in
clarifying and resolving issues of concern.  The incumbent will identify
and make recommendations for improvement of current practices, and
perform other tasks as required.

Required qualifications and skills include a Bachelor's degree in
accounting or related field plus four years of relevant experience, or
eight years of relevant experience in a business organization or
government agency where the primary day-to-day duties of the position
included the preparation and processing of accounting and budget
transactions.  Candidates should have demonstrated experience reading,
interpreting and applying Federal and State laws and regulations.
Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to think
critically, flexibly and analytically, and ability to work independently
or collaboratively in a team environment required.

Proficiency with the use of computerized spreadsheet, database and word
processing applications, Microsoft Office Suite preferred.  Experience
using a mainframe application such as FRS and/or experience using an
electronic research administration system such as InfoEd a plus.

This is a full-time, twelve-month, permanent position, with a target
salary range in the low $50's.
