Policies Regarding Discrimination of Fellows Benjamin Nevius 12 Jul 2006 08:52 EST

All,

We are in the process of reviewing and updating our polices regarding
discrimination (gender-based, race-based, etc.) of fellows. We are
specifically concerned about fellows paid stipends (not salaried or
contracted) via our federal grants. However, we are also interested in
expanding the conversation to fellows paid by other funds (not federal
grants) as well as to other non-personnel appointments (contractors, unpaid
academic appointments, interns, volunteers). We have been asked to survey
other institutions to provide background information for our decision
making.

Do you have policies that ensure protection from discrimination for
non-personnel appointments? Are these policies the same as those protecting
employees? Do you extend this protection to all non-personnel appointments
or only to certain ones?

Any advice or examples you have are greatly appreciated. Please respond
directly to me (xxxxxx@si.edu) rather than responding to the Listserv. I
would especially like to hear from any non-university organizations that may
be out there.

Thanks for your help!
