Grad Student Medical Leave of Absence Rana Darmara 17 Jan 2006 16:02 EST

Here at Rice University, Grad students are allowed 6 to 9 weeks of
paid medical and/or maternity leave. If 9 weeks is needed and
approved, the first 6 are charged as the Grad student is paid,
usually to research funds, and the final 3 are paid by the
university. If only 6 weeks are needed and approved, the first 3 are
charged to research and the second 3 are paid by the university.

I'd be interested to hear how these types of leave are handled at
other institutions.

Thanks very much.
